UN Warns Fuel Shortages, Displacement Worsen Crisis in Gaza
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that Israeli authorities have issued yet another evacuation directive, this time targeting areas in northern Gaza. Meanwhile, alarming reports have emerged about severely malnourished children and adults in hospitals struggling with scarce medical resources.
Despite a partial restart of fuel imports, the energy crisis in Gaza is intensifying. The shortage has forced a temporary halt in garbage collection over the past few days, and more water wells, primarily around Deir al-Balah, have ceased operation.
Fuel scarcity has led to cutbacks or closures of critical health services such as dialysis, with further reductions expected. Available fuel is being prioritized for essential sectors including healthcare, water supply, telecommunications, and transportation.
Movement for humanitarian aid within Gaza remains tightly controlled. Out of 13 requested attempts to coordinate the passage of aid personnel and supplies with Israeli authorities, only seven have been approved. These approvals have enabled teams to bring in fuel, gather water, relocate generators, distribute hygiene and sanitation materials, and deliver crucial medical equipment, OCHA added.
