Aging and Independence Offers Medicare Part D Counseling Available Ahead of the Open Enrollment

FREDERICK, Md. – Medicare Part D intake forms are available early this year. Medicare beneficiaries can submit an intake form to secure an appointment with a trained State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Counselor beginning October 1 until prior to the Medicare Open Enrollment period, which runs from October 15 until December 7.

Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each participant is eligible for one appointment during open enrollment. SHIP counselors provide confidential, impartial guidance to help people understand their Medicare options and make informed choices.

To participate, download an intake packet or pick one up at any Frederick County 50+ Community Center. Return completed forms by mail, email, fax, or drop-off at any 50+ Center. Additional details are included in the packet.

SHIP Counseling and Monthly Medicare Workshops

The Frederick County State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) offers confidential, face-to-face counseling assistance for people who have Medicare. Trained staff members are available to help Medicare beneficiaries, family members and caregivers understand Medicare benefits, bills, and Medicare rights.

In addition to one-on-one counseling, SHIP also hosts monthly in-person Medicare workshops. These free workshops help participants learn how to navigate Medicare, understand costs and coverage, review coverage options, and clarify the differences between Medigap/Supplemental Insurance and Medicare Advantage plans. Attendance is free, but registration is required. For more information about upcoming Medicare workshops, visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/SHIP
